1st Day in Philly
Philadelphia, I’m finally here! The days leading up to this trip I was pretty nervous about this move but once I touched down in Philly, all that went away and I was so excited to finally be here. It was such a surreal experience to look around as we drove through downtown philly, past the Museum of Art, and past boathouse row, and Drexel University College of Medicine! Philly already looks a lot different than Southern California, and its amazing to think that this is my new home.

Unfortunately the excitement gradually faded as I faced the reality of the monumental task that lies ahead. I came in with only two suitcases full of clothes. That means I’ll have to spend the last few days before orientation week putting together an apartment from scratch.

My mom and I left southern California at 6:50 pm and got to Philly at 6;30am! But as soon as we landed there was no time for rest. From there we spent a full day trying to officially move in, that means spending about four hours at IKEA trying to piece together a new apartment for as little money possible. It turns out we got almost everything from one IKEA, but the they were out of stock of the mattress I wanted, so we had to drive to another IKEA to get that as well. So take into account the fact that we were already tired from the red-eye flight, we spent a day loading and unloading a truckload of furniture, the stress of getting lost several times in a new city, and it goes without saying that by the time we got to bed my mom and I were completely exhausted.
But today is a new day and yesterday’s chaos is behind us. After a full nights rest I feel like I can take a deep breath, step back and appreciate my new life. I am officially living in The City of Brotherly Love! And I must say, this process would have been a lot harder if it wasn’t for my mom. She’s really been a HUGE help, and I couldn’t imagine doing this without her. So everyone out there take time to appreciate everything your parents do for you, because I know my parents always come through when I need them. Any ways, it feels good to slowly start making a new home for myself and I am excited to be that much closer to starting med school. I got some more shopping to do today, but nothing as bad as yesterday. I guess the worst thing is that once were done with all the shopping I’m really going to have to buckle down and start putting this IKEA furniture together, cause orientation week is right around the corner.
Till then, much…

Good to see you arrived in Philly safely! Being in a completely new city must be kinda stressful yet very exciting. Can’t wait to see your orientation pictures!
I think you’ve inspired me to start studying for my GMAT to get my MBA. We’ll see how that goes
